Homelessness Impact on Society
Homelessness is an issue that affects everyone in the community. As Jim Sands & Jill Atkey explain “one of the biggest effects of homelessness is the breakdown of community life itself. When a large number of people survives day-to-day and lives with the isolation, fear, and shame that accompanies homelessness, the very foundations of our communities are tested. Communities are affected by homelessness in a number of ways through the moral dimension, social cohesion, social inclusion, and social harmony” Sands & Atkey, 2009). One of the biggest problems a community faces is the inaction of the residents. The prevailing thought that the homeless person brought it on himself/herself is the type of attitude that makes the situation worse and pushes a downward spiral in some communities.

While Castle Rock, Co is an upper middle class community, I don’t see any type of inaction from a majority of the people that live here. I honestly think the biggest problem in awareness of the homeless living along the walking trails. Many people here live with blinders on, I know I’m guilty of it, but that no excuse to take time and help someone in need.

Possible Solutions
While doing some reading and research, it seems there is a common thread to the proposed solution to many of the homeless. Everything from affordable housing, some sort of support services, and some job skill training or training program can go a long way to helping the homeless find the right track back a clean living. The Collation for the Homeless (2014) stated that academic research and experience have shown time and

again that providing long-term affordable housing assistance to homeless families reduces family homelessness....
