Module One (Week One) Part One Windshield Survey and Key Informant Interviews -The age of the condo building I live in was built in 1907 -Type of construction used are, steel, concrete, dry wall, and plaster, wood. -The appearance is a 16 floor tall building, white in color shaped in the form of a rectangle. -The general condition of the building is refurbished with new added condos and upgrades to all exiting condos as well as new ones. -Most business people from the nearby businesses, such banks, urgent care and other businesses in the area. As well college students from St. Louis college and Washington University. -The hours vary on the week days, but on the weekends from Saturday to Sunday are from 12pm noon to 4am. -There is new and ongoing construction near the St. Louis Arch area as the city has removed part of the I70 bridge to convert a straight away national park leading the Arch from the down town area. This will prevent tourist from have to cross the freeway and waiting at a stop light. There are also construction the most of the city streets in the area. -All areas in the down town area are kept clean at all times -Due to the high presence of St. Louis Police patrolling in cars, bike and on foot prevents any dirt, trash or graffiti in the down town area. -The majority of racial group represented in the area are 85 whites, 10 Blacks and 5 Other -The cultural similarities or differences Ive observe are all western influenced. -Primary languages spoken is English, however I have heard some Turkish, Korean, and Spanish. -Clothing is primarily casual to business dress in the area -Ethnic eating places are western style, Irish, Greek and Turkish style foods and restaurants -The only culturally based celebration Ive witness in the down town area has been Cinco De Mile. -All signs are in English -Ive witness most individuals wearing proper head gear when operating bikes and other two wheels devices. -The use of seat belts while operating a car in St. Louis is the law. -The use of trash cans for garbage is find if not used -The unhealthy lifestyle behaviors I have observed has been centered around the homeless that also share the area -I have witness individuals smoking in public area only -I have not seen any signs of violence, gang activity, drug use not criminal activity. NO bars on doors and/or windows -I have not seen any signs of unattended children playing in the streets as I live in the down town area St. Louis. -Ive seen evidence of obesity in the area but really no underweight person - Persons observed have been primarily Blacks and Whites. Ages appear to be between 2mo -70 years of age -Person observed also appears to be in poor health due to no health care, lack of enough food and poor hygiene. Services in the Community -There are many social services in the area provided by the city and government. Such as homeless shelters, clothing and food closets. Shower points for the homeless, County general assistant offices and much more. -There is evidence of health, and mental health services in the area due to the homelessness in the area. -Such services are provided by St. Patrick, local churches all located in the central down town area. There is an urgent care located in the area as well who caters the homeless population. -There is no sign of alternative services in the area that Im aware from my research. -There are two public libraries one is the old post office which is only 1 block from my resident, the second is the main library due east of me, which is 4 blocks from my resident. -The closest school would be Gateway middle school, Gateway high school Clarks middle school and Humboldt elementary, all less than a 5 mile radius -The closet universities are St....
