Thinking back to my freshman year at Crandall High School, the first thing that comes to my mind is my first day. I walked in the door, only to be breath taken of how big the school was. I remember thinking to myself I might as well make myself comfortable here. This is where I will be spending my next four years. I tried out for the Gold Dusters and I made the teams. I worked really hard on all of my school work and I hoped to make my parents proud.

When I got into Drill Team I thought it was just going to be fun and it was not going to do much for me. Little did I know it was going to instill great values and character in myself. My friends have always thought of me as a trustworthy, honest, and responsible person. When it was a hot day and I was tired I worked as hard as I could to make the dance as perfect as it could be. My thoughts about character are if you were to lose everything you had today, the only thing people would have left to judge you by would be your character.

Drill team has also taught me about community service. Throughout the summer the drill team visited the homeless shelter, welcomed home the troops, and went to Children’s Hospital to perform for all of the sick kids. I have donated canned items, toys, and clothes to the homeless shelters. Community service has very much humbled me and taught me many things about life. It has made me appreciate the small things in life such as a bed, a washing machine, food, and heat/air. Just imagine your life without those things. These people at the homeless shelter had no home, only the food the homeless shelter provided them with, and only the clothes on their back. They carried everything they owned with a backpack. Community service taught me to think about what life would be like without the things I need, and also made me a better person. I donate when I can and I believe I should share the blessings that I have been given to the less fortunate.
